Tapped - The Movie

Is access to clean drinking water a basic human right, or a commodity that should be bought and sold like any other article of commerce?   Does putting water, which is essential to life, in plastic water bottles cause health and environmental problems?

The answers are Yes and Yes, which is echoed in Tapped, a new film that uncovers the big business of bottled water.

GreenYoga's campaign to bring awareness to the problems with bottled water has resulted in the elimination of over 8000 plastic water bottles at Yoga Journal conferences.   We continue to urge yoga studios, events, and teachers to promote healthy hydration.  And, you can get a free stainless steel water bottles when you join GreenYoga.

The movie Tapped, from the producers of Who Killed the Electric Car and I.O.U.S.A., is "a behind-the-scenes look into the unregulated and unseen world of an industry that aims to privatize and sell back the one resource that ought never to become a commodity: our water."

The film's Director Stephanie Soechtig and Producer Sarah Olson have embarked on a tour of 30 screenings across the US.  Find a screening near you at TappedTheFilm.com.

Yoga Journal's Boston Conference brings yogis from across New England to gather in community and learn from master teachers. Green Yoga will be there helping to keep waste and environmental impacts to a minimum, while boosting the spiritual and health benefits to a maximum.

Yoga Journal's San Francisco Conference is one of the Yoga community's premier gatherings.  There are lots of fantastic opportunities to meet and connect with other yoga students, teachers and business owners.  And with all this connecting, there seems to be lots of paper... brochures, post cards, and flyers.

In years past, an awful mess has been created, as various surface areas have been overwhelmed by this paper marketing material. Much of it ended up in the trash as the conference and hotel staffs struggled to keep public areas presentable.

Green Yoga will provide a community service by creating a clean and orderly location for the placement of paper marketing materials. Through a deposit-for-placement system we will ensure that marketers take responsibility for their materials, and that there is a minimum amount of paper wasted.

Thank You to all who attended, presented and sponsored our 2009 Green Yoga Conference.

We will be planning our next confernece soon, and will post here when we have details.

Third Green Yoga Conference: Yoga, Animals, and Ecology

Friday, May 29 through Sunday afternoon, May 31

Animals play an important role in the practice of Yoga. Many Yoga postures entail imitation of animals, evoking ancient shamanic practices. By placing one’s body and mind in the space of mammals, fish, reptiles, and insects, one’s consciousness and sensitivity become attuned to the larger order of life forms.  This expanded awareness of connectivity can serve a healing function, revealing the inter-related nature between humans and non-human animals.

News

Your support is vital

We have been busy planting trees, researching yoga mats, highlighting green practices, and networking the community together.  And, we have seen a devestating oil spill, inaction on climate change, and corporate attempts to greenwash plastic.

As the ecological crisis grows, yoga practice becomes an essential tool in managing our human response.

Through our practice we maintain connection so that we can take effective action.

Please support our efforts now.
