Green Yoga Conference

Thank You to all who attended, presented and sponsored our 2009 Green Yoga Conference.

We will be planning our next confernece soon, and will post here when we have details.

Third Green Yoga Conference: Yoga, Animals, and Ecology

Friday, May 29 through Sunday afternoon, May 31

Animals play an important role in the practice of Yoga. Many Yoga postures entail imitation of animals, evoking ancient shamanic practices. By placing one’s body and mind in the space of mammals, fish, reptiles, and insects, one’s consciousness and sensitivity become attuned to the larger order of life forms.  This expanded awareness of connectivity can serve a healing function, revealing the inter-related nature between humans and non-human animals.

This conference will include several offerings of animal-inspired Yoga practice, performance of asana routines by noted Yoga teachers as well as lectures by experts in the emerging fields of animal consciousness, animal-based therapies, vegetarian advocacy, religion and animals, and the legal standing of animals. Saturday evening will include a Council of All Beings. Opportunities for guided wildlife hikes into the Ballona Wetlands will be included.

Drop us a line, we will let you know how to sign up.

Review by an attendee...

From the mysterious intelligence of dolphins to the guiding
principals of the chakra system, May's Green Yoga Conference at Loyola
Marymount University highlighted the beauty and responsibility of our
role as sentient beings. We participated in lectures and discussions,
watched performances of ancient Indian dance, and connected with our
animal-nature through asana. The news wasn't all good: presentations
about dolphin and sea otter habitats in danger, factory farm abuses of
animals, and pit bull over breeding made us recognize the distance
we've created between ourselves and our non-human counterparts. Asana
practice connected us to the origins of our existence and brought us
to the deepest parts of nature--a profoundly simple state that left
many in tears. The Green Yoga Association's LMU conference called us
to serve, cherish, and receive the gifts of this great Earth.
