California Yoga Teachers Association CYTA was founded in 1973 by a group of yoga teachers who wanted to connect and support each other through education and friendship. To that end CYTA created a training program which evolved into the first nationally recognized two-year Yoga Teacher Training Program. Additionally, a group of us met in 1975 to turn our newsletter into a magazine, which we named Yoga Journal. Today CYTA functions as a partial owner of Yoga Journal and as a professional organization for yoga teachers with a Code of Professional Standards. Future projects will continue to support the education of yoga teachers individually and the profession of yoga teaching generally.
Forum on Religion and Ecology The Forum on Religion and Ecology is the largest international multireligious project of its kind. With its conferences, publications, and website it is engaged in exploring religious worldviews, texts, and ethics in order to broaden understanding of the complex nature of current environmental concerns. The Forum recognizes that religions need to be in dialogue with other disciplines (e.g., science, ethics, economics, education, public policy, gender) in seeking comprehensive solutions to both global and local environmental problems. Institutional support for this project includes: The Harvard University Center for the Environment, The Harvard-Yenching Institute, Bucknell University and The Center for Respect of Life and Environment of the Humane Society.
