Dina Amsterdam
Dina Amsterdam fell in love with yoga in 1990 in a journey to heal herself. Her classes and retreats poetically interweave stillness with flow to awaken peaceful presence, intelligence, and vitality in the whole being. Her guidance, both compassionate and inspiring, cultivates a tender spaciousness and a desire to embrace the transformational power that yoga offers our lives. Dina is deeply influenced by and grateful to Sarah Powers, Rodney Yee, Kripalu Center, and the great masters (both living and deceased) of the Toaist and Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
Katchie Ananda
A former dancer in Switzerland and Brazil, Katchie has been studying and teaching Yoga for the last two decades. Her profound understanding of, and life-long dedication to Yoga, offer a precious opportunity to experience its benefit at the deepest level. Katchie is certified in Anusara, Jivamukti and Integral Yoga, and has practiced and taught Ashtanga Yoga for many years. Deeply inspired by Jack Kornfield, Katchie is an avid practitioner of Vipassana meditation and is committed to raising awareness on how to create a peaceful and sustainable way of life for all.
Kathryn Arnold
Kathryn Arnold has been a dedicated yoga practitioner and vipassana meditator for 30 years. Before coming to Yoga Journal, she held editorial positions at New Hope Natural Media in Boulder, Colorado, Working Woman and Savvy magazines, and was a founder of New Chapter Press, an independent book publishing company. Kathryn volunteers at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, California, taking care of sick and injured sea lions, elephant seals, harbor seals and porpoises.
Bob Bruce
After nearly four and a half decades of librarianship in various parts of the world and the U.S. Bob was finally smart enough to get out of his head and into his heart by being certified to teach Kripalu yoga. Spirit led to a connection with the wondrous Laura Cornell and others who have helped mid-wife Green Yoga. Through his work in Wyoming, Colorado, New Jersey, Maine, Alaska, Afghanistan and Indonesia, as well as Minnesota, he has developed a deep appreciation of the gifts of nature and try to bring that into his classes.
Scott Blossom, DOM
Scott Blossom is a Certified Yoga Therapist as well as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and Ayurvedic Consultant. Over the last twelve years he has extensively studied the relationship between yoga, western physiological, and classical eastern concepts of healing and balance. The grace of his teachers such as Dr. Robert Svoboda, Shandor Remete, and Erich Schiffmann have inspired Scott about the place and power of Yoga in the modern world. He is known for his humor, kindness, and integrative teaching approach. He recently presented at the San Francisco Yoga Journal Conference and has a feature article about Yoga and Ayurveda in the March 2005 issue of their magazine.
Megha - Nancy Buttenheim
Megha is a 20 year Senior Faculty member at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. She holds an MA in Integrative Arts and Expressive Movement, and is former director of Kripalu Yoga Teacher Training and Kripalu Holistic Health Teacher Training. Also a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist, Kripalu Bodyworker, and Expressive Movement Therapist, Megha travels throughout the world awakening others to a new love and appreciation for their bodies through moving yoga. Grace in Motion? is her "express route to joy."
Christopher Key Chapple
Christopher Key Chapple is author of twelve books, Theological Studies Professor at Loyola Marymount University and Associate Academic Vice President for LMU Extension. He established the Yoga Philosophy Program at LMU?s Center for Religion and Spirituality in 2002 and helped to found the Hill Street Yoga Center for Yoga and Meditation in Santa Monica, California.
Gillian Kapteyn Comstock
Gillian Kapteyn Comstock, MA is a holistic psychotherapist and yoga therapist, certified in Kripalu, Jivamukti, and Interdisciplinary Yoga. As Co-Director of Earth Island Expeditions, she has guided yoga retreats, quests, and trainings in wilderness sanctuaries around the world. Gillian has practiced yoga and meditation for over 25 years, weaving it into her years of mothering and ecologically oriented lifeways.
Russell Comstock
Russell Comstock has practiced yoga for over twenty years and is a certified Interdisciplinary and Jivamukti Yoga teacher. Co-Director of Earth Island Expeditions, he develops and guides outdoor, adventure-based therapy programs for at-risk youth in residential treatment. Russell is currently engaged in a graduate program through Prescott College working towards a master's degree in contemplative and ecological leadership.
Laura Cornell
Laura Cornell is Director of the Green Yoga Association, currently completing her PhD research on yoga and ecology. She has been a Kripalu Yoga Teacher since 1995 and a Quaker since 1986. She is author of, The Moon Salutation: Expression of the Feminine in Body, Psyche, Spirit.
Michael Crooke
Michael Crooke is President and CEO of Patagonia, Inc., widely known for their commitment to environmental responsibility. Michael served five years on the board of directors of the Conservation Alliance, the outdoor industry's environmental grant-giving organization, including one year as president. Michael has a B.S. degree in forestry and an MBA from Humboldt State University. In addition, he served as a Navy SEAL.
Pat Daniel (Tanuja)
Pat Daniel, Ph.D., R.Y.T. (Tanuja) is a professional level Kripalu Yoga teacher and has edited the Green Yoga newsletter. She served as a founding board member of the Green Yoga Association. In her day job, she is the associate director of Ceres, a national coalition of investors and environmentalists working to promote sustainability.
Nicki Doane & Eddie Modestini
Nicki Doane began practicing yoga in 1988 and started teaching in 1992. She first studied with Pattabhi Jois, in 1991, in Mysore, India and considers him to be her teacher. Although rooted in Ashtanga yoga, nicki's teaching goes beyond the traditional. Her classes are physically challenging and spiritually uplifting, combining asana, philosophy, and poetry. Eddie Modestini is a teacher's teacher. He has been a yogi and a yoga teacher since 1983. Eddie has been certified in Iyengar yoga and has been a student of Pattabhi Jois since 1991. He is well versed in both systems and has an amazing eye and holds the ability to read student's bodies and is a master of yoga therapy. Eddie and Nicki teach and live together on Maui.
Karl Erb
Karl has studied yoga for over 20 years, and was a full time activist for much of that time. Karl has studied yoga, Vedanta and classical north Indian vocals with some of the most knowledgeable instructors in the world. Karl teaches yoga imbued with the teachings from classical texts, explorations of sound, devotion and breath and principles of ayurveda, tantra and vedanta. Karl has worked for the organizing committee of the Fate of the Earth Conference in Nicaragua 1989, International Indian Treaty Council, Earth Island Institute, Pesticide Action Network, Earth First!, League of Conservation Voters and more.
Greensufi
Mystic and Visionary, Greensufi, comes from an ancient esoteric school of learning. His teaching & training includes harmonizing the energy centers, balancing the male & female within, tuning the seeker's vibrations to the diurnal cycle of the planet & awakening the unknown areas of human psyche. He has taught both in the United States & Europe.
David Haberman
David Haberman is Professor and Chair of the Department of Religious Studies at Indiana University, Bloomington. Although he is a student of all religions, he specializes in the Hindu religious cultures of India. His most recent book is a study of a sacred river entitled River of Love in an Age of Pollution: The Yamuna River of Northern India.
Clayton Horton
Clayton has been a student of yoga for over 17 years and began teaching in 1996. His practice is deeply rooted in the Ashtanga Tradition and Greenpath meditation. Clayton is a Founding Board Member of the Green Yoga Association. He is a student of the Greensufi and Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Clayton received Formal Authorization to teach Ashtanga Yoga from the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute of Mysore, South India in 2003.
Denise Kaufman
Denise Kaufman has been exploring yoga, movement, energy flow and community/connectedness for over thirty-five years. She loves getting deeper, quieter and more open through Yin Yoga. Her passions are surfing, playing music and singing with friends. Her teachers include Robert Nadeau Sensei, Sadao Yoshioka Sensei (aikido/meditation), Danny Paradise, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (yoga), Paul Grilley (Taoist Yoga), Roselle Keli'ihonipua Bailey (hula/mana), Vyaas Houston (Sanskrit), Rabbi Mordecai Finley (Kabbalah), Wavy Gravy (heart and community) and the Pacific Ocean (source and juice).
Sally Kempton
Sally Kempton (Durgananda) teaches workshops and retreats in meditation and yoga wisdom, and writes the Living Your Yoga column for Yoga Journal. A former monk and senior teacher in the Siddha Yoga lineage, she is the author of The Heart of Meditation: Pathways to a Deeper Experience, and is highly regarded both for her knowledge of eastern philosophy and for her ability to transmit the inner experience of meditation.
David Lurey
David was introduced to Ashtanga Yoga in 1996 as a way to tone his body and relieve work related stress. Using those as a foundation for Asana practice, the other limbs of Ashtanga Yoga began to unfold leading him to the path of teaching transformational Yoga. Using various spiritual teachings as guidelines for classes, David takes students through opening and often challenging Asana practice while encouraging the magical power of breath and mental stillness to cultivate the true loving nature of the heart.
Hasita Nadai
Agi/Hasita Nadai is a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, since 1994. She is a Deep Ecologist, a Reiki Master and a Medicine Energy Healer. Hasita as a biologist and geologist taught and did research at Columbia University and NY City College, and worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Hasita has created Yogagaia to integrate her Yoga path with her deep connection to the planet. Hasita gives workshops on Yogagaia to various audiences.
Vijaya Nagarajan
Vijaya Nagarajan is an Associate Professor of South Asian Religions at the University of San Francisco. Her interests range from ritual, ecology, gender, folklore, art history, and cultural studies. She co-directed two nonprofits organizations, The Recovery of Commons Project (1984-1990) and the Institute for the Study of Natural and Cultural Resources (1986-current).
Tracie Sage
Tracie Sage is a certified Kripalu & Anusara Affiliated Yoga Teacher. A gentle and compassionate teacher of whole health, she has been living and learning with foods, herbs, and yoga for over 21 years. Her teaching style is natural and direct - a sharing of practical skills for living. Tracie offers whole health classes and coaching or private yoga for individuals and couples. She also leads retreats in beautiful places.
Jenny Sauer-Klein
Jenny Sauer-Klein is the co-founder of AcroYoga and has been blessed with cultivating and sharing this practice. Her teaching is influenced by an advanced certification in Contact ("flying") Yoga by its originator Nateshvar Ken Scott, as well as her studies in dance, movement, theatre, Chinese Acrobatics, and Breema bodywork. She is grateful for this opportunity to blend her love of community with her reverence for Nature.
Rusty Wells
Rusty Wells, a practitioner of Bhakti yoga, teaches Freestyle Vinyasa in the Bay Area. He has been inspired by many wonderful teachers including Shri Dharma Mittra, Swami Sivananda, and Baron Baptiste. Rusty believes that through the practice of yoga we can reduce suffering in this world and that the heart of yoga is the discovery of this Oneness.
Mark Whitwell
Mark is interested in developing an authentic yoga practice for the individual, based on the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya and his son T.K.V. Desikachar, with whom he enjoyed a relationship for more than twenty years. Mark’s teachings clarify the profound passion and relevance of ancient wisdom to contemporary life. Mark is the founder of The Heart of Yoga Foundation, a non-profit group committed to yoga education around the world. Mark was the editor and contributor to T.K.V. Desikachar’s book, The Heart of Yoga as well as the author of Yoga of Heart and Hridayayogasutra.
Abby Wills
Abby dedicates her life to sharing yoga with youth of all ages. Blending wisdom from Indian, Tibetan and Taoist yoga traditions, Abby's classes are a hybrid of contemplative form, guided meditation, chanting, breath awareness, relaxation and dialogue.
