OceanYoga - A Day of Practices on the Beach
with Gillian and Russell Comstock, Friday September 16th, 9:30am - 5:00pm
Deepen your understanding of yoga as a path of communion between
humanity and the Earth. Explore the dimensions of yoga that are
expressed through the world of nature. Journey into the elements and
invite your awareness to expand through the practices of silence,
mindfulness, breath, posture sequences, sound, gaze, sensory focus,
meditation, and creative art through solo, partner, and group
experiences.
In this daylong workshop participants will have the opportunity to:
-
Quiet the busy mind as we walk together along the coast practicing
silence and mindfulness.
-
Draw inspiration for ujjayi pranayama, the ocean sounding breath,
from the sound of the waves.
-
Discover the joy of aligning our bodies with nature's rhythms and
forms through asana and vinyasa, innovative postures and sequencing
inspired by the images around us.
-
Attune to the sounds of nature: Earth's primal expression of
nada yoga, and listen for the hidden unstruck vibration within.
-
Dissolve the objectifying mind through the practice of dristi, a
soft focused gaze, which opens our perceptions to the fields of prana or
energy in the surrounding environment.
-
Experience the vitality of expressing our devotion through sand,
sticks, shells and other found, natural objects as we create bhakti
altars: prayerful offerings to Earth.
-
Practice pratyahara, the quieting of the senses, as your torso and
lower body is buried in sand for a deep experience of release in Earth
savasana, relaxation pose.
-
Nurture your awareness of the present moment through guided
meditation.
-
Revel in a perception of the unbounded Self, mirrored in the
expansive sky.
This workshop is open to people at all levels of yoga experience.
Dedication, curiosity and playfulness will guide us as we explore the
fascinating, expansive, radiance of nature through the lens of yogic
philosophy.

Heart of Yoga
with Mark Whitwell, Sunday September 18th 7:00pm through Monday 19th 3:00pm
By restoring intimacy with yourself, other human beings and Life as a whole, you will discover your Heart as the
locus where all cosmic polarities converge in the body. This experience of being centered in yourself will help you
summon the courage to stand alone with dignity and you will learn how to plunge into a sincere relationship and heal
from within. Mark will encourage you to feel better about yourself and feel yourself better as strength receiving the nurturing force of Life.
Mark will guide you through safe and fruitful asana practice, applying the yoga principles of the legendary yoga master
T. Krishnamacharya and his tantric hatha yoga practices. This soft but intense approach to performing yoga postures focuses on
pranayama (yogic breathing) and bandha (internal locks) as the central features of a well-structured practice.
With the breath as your guide, your asana practice will automatically create the twofold quality of sthira (alertness with steadiness) and
sukha (comfort with ease) in the system and so make possible the full enjoyment of both your daily practice and your Life.
This workshop will include lecture, meditation and chanting, questions and answers and asana practice; portions will be held both indoors and
outdoors at the beautiful Pema Osel Ling site. Mark will teach you how to receive all the
benefits of your authentic yoga, the one that truly addresses your real needs, abilities, aspirations, interests and changing
circumstances, and thereby advance your overall human development. While respecting the diversity of yoga traditions as well as the
practical background of each practitioner, Mark will help you
develop your personal practice and enjoy the immediate results of a well-adapted yoga: more peace and more power. Yoga practiced
as a self-motivating discipline of pleasure will help you discover your Heart and live your Life to the best of your abilities.
This program will be suitable for practitioners at all levels of experience.
